How The Playstation 4 Can Beat The Xbox 720

It seems the battle of words over who will win the next-next generation console war is already starting to hot up.

A thread over on the highdefdigest.com forums shares a number of ways and ideas that Sony should adopt to ensure their success at dominating the future console marketplace.

Launch – The PS4 must launch in the same timeframe. Achievements, Live and the lower price helped the 360 but that head start seemed to be the clincher.

Consistency – When it comes to Online gaming. We’d all love it to be free but if its going to cause 3rd party devs to get headaches and to scramble and host their games just charge for it.

Exclusives – Pay for exclusives. The Kuturagi handshake deals are over now that the market share has shrunk, lock up those 3rd party titles.

More Thought To 3rd Parties – Consider the 3rd parties when designing the CPU/processor.

Varied Launch Titles – A nice varied launch lineup and at least one exclusive killer app. PS3’s launch was filled with delayed games, year old 360 ports, PS2 ports and one really awful exclusive (Mobile Suit Gundam). I am a big fan of Resistance but I feel like it was almost the Luigi’s Mansion of Sony launch lineups.

Premium Accessories – Include a headset, component cables and maybe a demo(physical disc or saved in the hard drive). We want people knowing the benefits of high definition and that they can talk online from day one. The demo could advertise games available now and upcoming to get people psyched. And perhaps a walkthrough explaining the store/differences in cables/online gaming.

Easy System Upgrades – Don’t make the hard drives proprietary like MS. Keep the uprgadeable system we have now

Affordable Launch Price – They must launch at 299. Losses are a given at that price but systems will sell faster and there will be a healthy attach rate early on. Software is where the money’s at. This formula worked twice for Sony It can work again.

  1. Now I think thats the best thing anyone has said admitadly I owe those 3 consoles and I must say that Xbox 360 has done very well perhaps much better than the other 2.

  4. They just need to come up with some original ideas as the xbox just seems to copy features from other companys. Expect the xbox to just be motion controlled as that what won this generation.

  10. first of all all you god damned Xbox 720 fans get off the PS4 WEBSITE!!!! Even though the ps4 will need a cheeper launch price than the PS3 it should still be more than 300 dollars because they will need to make the system have so many more features

  13. First of all if u analyze the proccesor and its functionality u will see tbat the 720s custom built morado cpu gpu will render pixels blatently faster and have a higher frame rate per second with a clovk speed of 3.89 ghz and 8 ddr3 ram tbe xbox is obviously superior

  15. Green-ray? That would be worse than bluray. And, the actual color of the laser is violet, not blue, because it’s a higher color on the color spectrum.

    Xbox will never play bluray, because it’s Sony’s, and Sony has a ton of patents on it. Bluray discs will be able to store up to 500GBs of space, which is plenty for the next gen. It’s also much cheaper for Sony to stick with bluray.

  20. Hi Guys, one thing the new ps4 MUST have is a option to connect and play 3d (sterioscopic games)
    Make slightly bigger controllers, i know its made for all ages, but we as adults dont have small hands and slightly bigger is a good way to go. I still think disc is te best option to go by, maybe shipping these new units say with standard 1tb hard drives. Ability to connect to wireless audio devices, like home cinemas, so i can play m games, where i can connect my wireless home cinema to it. One thing is a must, its a stretch but to be able to use 2 screens when multiplayer, it really suck playing with your friend on a split screen locally. Can this issue be solved. Surely ou dont want that lame ass microsoft people to do this first and actually come up with something they thought up by them self for once and call it their own. I know sony is and will always be first in innovation and i would love to see it been kept this way, not using stuff other people are already used to it. Keep it up, im looking forward seeing great things to come

  22. i’ve seen some of the pictures for the concept designs for both xbox 720 and the ps4. by far, the ps4 looks better. i wouldn’t be surprised if it would be playstations time to shine … again :)

  28. All i have to say is good luck microsoft. The ps3 already has surpassed the 360 even with its flaws. The ps4 will completely blow it out of the water. Microsoft better put their best foot forward and not release something that will break down, overheat, or die too fast.

  29. I think if sony releases at the same time as microsoft they will win, but also think that having the free online, is one of the key factors that make the PS3 a more desirable console.
