Will The Playstation 4 Have A Disc Drive?

In the past Sony’s Phil Harrison has stated, “I’d be amazed if the PlayStation 4 has a physical disc drive”, but can Sony really release the PS4 without a disc drive?
It’s been proven by Microsoft that online downloads can generate a pile of cash, and with broadband getting faster and cheaper will we eventually see titles released purely online?
The PSN Store could literally offer the entire PS/PS2/PS3/PSP back catalog available to anyone with a credit card and a decent internet connection. But with Blu-Ray titles weighing in at upwards of 20 gigabytes each this option would surely only be possible if affordable fiber obtic internet services are widespread come the time of the PS4.
It’s certainly an interest concept, i guess only time will tell which route Sony decide to go down, but with online play and store downloads becoming increasingly more popular it’s surely an inevitable transition, don’t you think?

This will be a problem cause will only be available for non poor countries..
Countries like South Africa where I am can afford games and we have a big enough community offline and on. but INternet well we pay 5 times more than the US and slower not to mention capped on it too….
I hope our telecomunications realise this otherwise there is no reason to sell a PS4 in Countries like that which narrows the sales and decresses them…No company would want that

It would be a really stupid idea. By all means have all the games online and even cheaper online but you have to have a physical version. First it would be silly to limit your market due to factors outide your control. Some people just can’t get access to good broadband. Secodly, lots of people can only afford to buy as many games as they do ecause they sell them second hand, how can that happen f yo dont have a hard copy. Finaly, ost downloaded games have limits, they can only be installed xamounts o times, used on x amount of consoles, so no lending to mates and no uninstalling to make room on ur hdd.

ps4 will have a harddrive only for ps1 ps2 ps3 and amd support for psp. for ps4 games you will download them from the internet and you must pay for them. only demoes will be without paying

Crazy not to have a bluray drive, IMO. Nobody is going to use their bandwidth cap for games.

Sorry, no phisical = no go for me. With a 1TB HDD I’m already coming up on 800GB fast, so there’s no way I could store my BD’s. I have to have a library.
